Part-Time Escape Room Operator


Escape Oakland is currently looking for 1 part-time employee to join our team in the role of “Operator.” We offer a starting wage of $14/hour with opportunities for growth.


Specifically, we are looking for someone with:

  • Excellent communication skills (personable and comfortable speaking in front of groups)

  • Strong sense of initiative and flexibility (able to think on your feet and troubleshoot software, hardware, and customer service issues)

  • A flexible schedule who is willing to work ~15 hours per week to start, potentially increasing as our venue grows

  • The ability to commit to weekend shifts (Friday evenings, Saturday afternoons/evenings, and Sunday afternoons/evenings)


A plus - but not required - if you have:

  • Some daytime availability on weekdays (Monday - Friday) to operate private escape games on an ad-hoc basis

  • Basic or proficient knowledge of tools

  • Played an escape room game before!

What does an Operator do?

We’re glad you asked! The majority of the Operator’s job is to run escape room games. That includes:

  • Greeting players as they arrive, signing them in, explaining the rules and ethos of the game, etc.

  • Using our 8-monitor, 10-microphone, 10-camera setup to watch up to two teams play at once, while providing hints as needed through a Microsoft PowerPoint slide show

  • Leading teams out of their scenarios, debriefing them, and showing them out

  • “Resetting” everything in our four scenarios to its original position; repairing or replacing puzzles/decor as needed


A portion of the job may also be administrative (we’ll teach you everything you need to know):


  • Responding to emails and phone calls

  • Scheduling full venue bookings and dealing with other special circumstances as they arise

  • Helping to manage the Escape Oakland social media presence

  • Maintaining a clean lobby, bathroom, etc.

  • Bookkeeping and filing

  • Anything else that needs to be done. We’re a very small business, so everyone has to be ready to pitch in when needed!
